IN PRACTICE
The plants IT systems are based on ERP software for an IBM/AS400.
From the very start of Production, each compressor is given a unique
code in the Information system, and then associated with a customer
order. “The use of barcode labels works out expensive and
lays out an aesthetic problem on the final product. We have therefore
chosen an RFID solution. The tags are magnetically supported on
the compressors and are present throughout the whole production
process. At the end of production, the tags are recovered, ready
to be reused.” The compressors are identified by their tags,
when going before proximity scanners before each workstation. “The
central IT system can follow each order in real time and delivers
(when an order is placed) specific tasks to an operator, which
must be done on each compressor.”
