FLOW MANAGEMENT
7 a.m., along the banks of the Seine, the endless lorry ballet has
started. Today, 30,000 tons of grain (rapeseed, corn, cocoa, oil
cakes for cattle feeding) will move through this cereal terminal.
Before 7 p.m., over 400 semi-trailers will be dealt with, including
all required paperwork, meaning a lorry every 108 seconds. All, without
exception, will go through both weighbridges for weighing in and
out operations. From the start of our automation project, we made
a number of objectives clear” declares the site manager. “One
of our requirements was that the arrival/departure of the lorries
should be dealt with efficiently. The rates increased with the full
confidence of the carriers, our partners. The driver’s waiting
time is kept to a strict minimum. Each driver operates independently,
thanks to a ticket with bar code given to him upon entering the terminal.
The congestion on our forecourt, cause of significant delays, has
disappeared”. 10 a.m., the comings and goings of lorries has
intensified. The loading of a cargo ship on the quay started this
morning, it will leave before this evening, fully loaded with oil
cakes. “The rape seed and the oil cakes have seen heavy demand
since Animal Flour was banned in the feeding of bovine. All our stock
ran out within a few weeks." |
